Microdiscectomy
Microdiscectomy refers to a procedure where the surgeon uses a surgical microscope to view the disc and nerves. This magnified view allows the surgeon to take special precautions while operating and attempt to minimise injury to surrounding tissue.
During discectomy surgery, the surgeon removes the part of the disc that is herniated and is pushing into the spinal canal or onto the nerve root. Any loose fragments of disc are also removed.
